Road closures for highway improvement schemes
For road closures connected to highway maintenance and improvement schemes carried out by Bury Council:
Simister Island (Junction 18, M60) improvement works
Highways England is improving the Simister Island Interchange between the M62, M60 and M66.
Simister Island Interchange is one of the busiest motorway junctions in the north-west used by around 90,000 vehicles each day.
The junction struggles with such high volumes of traffic above what it was designed for, and as a result suffers from congestion and poor journey time reliability.
The project will improve the junction and facilitate smoother flows of traffic along the connecting motorways, contributing to more reliable and safer journeys into and around Greater Manchester.

Closure of M60 between J17-18 weekend of 10-12 October
National Highways is carrying out the second closure of the M60 between junction 17 to 18 as part of the Simister island improvements this weekend.
- 10pm Saturday 10 to 6am Monday 12 October - M60 anticlockwise (westbound) from junction 18 to 17
- 11.59pm Saturday 10 to 6am Monday 12 October - M60 clockwise (eastbound) from junction 17 to 18
