About the Fishpool and Pimhole Bee Active Travel Scheme

The Fishpool and Pimhole Bee Active Travel Scheme was consulted on during 2022. Since then, the scheme has been extensively reviewed, to provide the best quality scheme for residents.

Phase one of the scheme is already underway and due to complete during the summer. The second phase of construction is due to start during the autumn following on from the two community briefing days which were held on 7 and 8 July.  Both these sessions provided residents with the opportunity to be updated on and ask questions about the final plans for the phase 2 scheme.

This investment in Fishpool and Pimhole will:

  • Improve safety for residents
  • Make it easier for people to drive less
  • Create high quality public spaces that are safer, better connected and easier to navigate.

We know travel habits won’t change overnight, but by creating the right environment, we can help more people choose greener, healthier ways to get around. This benefits you, the planet, and future generations.

The scheme design

The scheme design has been developed together with the Fishpool and Pimhole community. It includes upgrading existing junctions and creating new crossing points, introducing traffic calming measures and other features that improve safety and encourage people to walk, wheel or cycle.

Project funding

As part of the Bee Network, this scheme is funded from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) and the Mayor’s Challenge Fund.

Proposed scheme start and finish dates

The scheme is due to start during the autumn and it will take approximately 13 months to complete.

  • Proposed start date: Autumn 2025
  • Proposed completion date: Autumn 2026

Disruption from the works

As the scheme involves working in the road, some disruption is unavoidable, but we will minimise this as far as possible.

  • Working hours: Generally, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with any work outside of these hours only if needed
  • Noise: Any noisy works won’t start before 8am

The new features explained

The scheme includes upgrading existing junctions and creating new crossing points, traffic calming measures and filtered neighbourhood features.

All the features we are introducing aim to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, reduce car trips, and improve connectivity to Bury town centre and other local facilities.

Here is a description of each of the new features and where they will be located.
