Have Your Say on Bury's Draft Housing Strategy 2026 to 2036

Bury Council is developing a new Housing Strategy for the borough, called Homes for Bury. The strategy sets out our long-term vision, priorities, and approach to housing in Bury over the next ten years, from delivering the new homes the borough needs and regenerating our town centres, to improving existing homes, supporting people to live well and independently, preventing homelessness, and creating sustainable, healthy neighbourhoods.

A draft of the strategy has now been prepared, informed by a review of housing needs across the borough and early engagement with residents, partners, and stakeholders. On 30 June 2026, Cabinet approved the draft strategy for public consultation, and we now want to hear from you.

The consultation runs for twelve weeks, from Thursday 13 August to Thursday 5 November. Your views will help shape the final strategy before it is presented to Cabinet for approval later this year.

What is the strategy about?

Our vision is that everyone in Bury has access to a safe, affordable home that reduces inequalities, supports health and wellbeing, and creates strong, thriving communities. The draft strategy is built around five strategic objectives:

  • Delivering more homes to meet Bury's needs, in the right places and of the right types
  • Improving the quality, efficiency, and use of existing homes across all tenures
  • Enabling access to homes that meet people's needs and support independence, health and wellbeing
  • Preventing homelessness and creating stable housing pathways
  • Being an excellent landlord, with better council homes and stronger places

We want to know whether these are the right priorities for Bury, whether anything is missing, and what matters most to you.

Once adopted, the strategy will guide housing delivery across the borough over the next ten years.
