We are developing proposals to improve connectivity to Bury town centre and provide safe and convenient travel options for everyone.

We’re seeking your views on proposed improvements to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer and easier in the following three areas around Bury town centre:

  • Southern Gateway - to the south of Bury town centre, between Bury Grammar School / Fishpool and the town centre ring road.
  • Western Gateway - to the west of Bury town centre, between Burrs Country Park and Woodhill Fold and the Woodfields area.
  • Freetown - to the northeast of Bury town centre, between the town centre and Hoyles Park.

This engagement runs for approximately 4 weeks, beginning on Monday 22 June and ending at 23:59 on Monday 20 July 2026.

The bigger picture

Overview

We have been awarded funding from UK Government via the Streets for All element of Greater Manchester’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) to make it safer, easier and more enjoyable to walk, wheel and cycle around Bury Town Centre.

We want to improve connections to workplaces, schools and the town centre, as well as enhance the look and feel of local streets and neighbourhoods.

By making walking, wheeling and cycling more attractive, especially for shorter journeys between residential areas and key destinations, we can help reduce congestion, lower emissions, and improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
