Ways to get involved

A Tenants and Residents Association is group of local people who work together to make positive changes in their area, create community spirit and improve resident's quality of life.

Benefits of setting up a group

• Share ideas and work in partnership with Bury Housing and other agencies to make improvements to local services.
• Attend and help organise social events and activities (such as community gardening schemes, youth activities, clean up days, luncheon clubs, etc), which can be a great way to get to know your neighbours and improve community spirit.
• Apply for funding to make improvements to your community.
• Gain fantastic work experience, learn new skills and gain a sense of satisfaction through volunteering

Tenants work alongside housing staff to scrutinise housing services to help identify areas for improvement and make recommendations based on the findings.

Being part of our Tenant Voice Review Groups is a great opportunity to make your voice heard and help shape the services we provide.

We currently have groups focusing on:

• Complaints
• Repairs
• Communication
• Tenancy

These groups give you the chance to share your experiences and views on how we handle complaints, the quality of repairs, and how effectively we communicate with you.

Your feedback is incredibly important. It plays a key role in helping us improve and ensuring we deliver the best possible service to all our tenants.

The Housing Advisory Board is made up of tenant volunteers and councillors who are dedicated to improve the lives and communities of those living across Bury. They monitor and review housing performance and work hard to provide the best service for tenants. They meet four times a year. 

Meetings are held twice a year for leaseholder residents to discuss their lease, service charges, general management of their property and their neighbourhood.

Walk around your estate with housing staff, local councillors, and partners to identify any concerns. Details of our walkabouts are published on our website and social media sites.

Join us at our Community Days of Action where we help clean up your neighbourhood, tackle any issues you may be experiencing and offer advice and support. 

We'll be running our Community Days of Action on:

• Wednesday 10 June – Willow Street & Hazel Avenue area, Bury 11am–2pm
• Tuesday 28 July – Rufford Drive, Whitefield, 11am–2pm
• Wednesday 19 August – Carr Clough, Prestwich, 11am–2pm
• Thursday 24 September – Taggwood and Dundee Estate, Ramsbottom, 11am–2pm

Join the panel to offer views on particular topics, changes and improvements to our service and proof-reading documents from the comfort of your own home.  It’s a quick and easy way to get involved and provide us with feedback. 

Help decide on how Bury Council Housing’s Community Grant awards are allocated for community projects. The group meets four times a year and will assess submitted applications based on need and benefit to Bury Council tenants and communities across the borough. Capturing the voice of our older tenants to improve community safety and quality of life, in both sheltered/extra care schemes and within communities. We also encourage active involvement in suggesting and organising activities to help reduce social isolation.

We welcome established youth groups, schools and young people in our communities to have their say to help develop activities, projects and neighbourhood improvements to help make a positive difference. We also encourage intergenerational projects to bring different age groups together.

Come along to a community event to gain advice and support. This gives you the chance to speak to us face-to-face and take part in fun activities.

We welcome feedback on how we can improve but also to recognise good service, so make a complaint, leave a compliment or share a suggestion.
