Down Syndrome UK Primary Education Programme

This programme, offered by Down Syndrome UK, is designed for SENCOs, teachers and teaching assistants, and has been developed by Dr Becky Baxter, our Director of Education and Speech and Language. Becky is one of the most experienced specialist speech and language therapists in the UK and has over 12 years of experience working directly with schools to ensure the inclusion and progress of pupils with Down syndrome.
The programme aims to support schools and includes the following:

  • Training: An accredited online course covering the learning strengths of pupils with Down syndrome, strategies to promote inclusive practices, and guidance around differentiating the curriculum.
  • Support: Access to regular online sessions with Becky and other experts as well as an opportunity to meet and collaborate with other schools.
  • Information: Access to practical information sessions and videos covering a range of education and health needs including developing literacy and numeracy, supporting hearing and vision difficulties, supporting friendships and positive behaviour.
  • Resources: Practical activities and examples to support learning across the curriculum and tools to target and measure individual progress.

Down Syndrome UK is confident that together, we can ensure pupils with Down syndrome can thrive in their education settings.
