Job Title: Count Table Supervisor

Reports to: Area Team Manager
The purpose of the Verification and Count team is to open ballot boxes and ensure the contents agree with the Ballot Paper Accounts. The team are also responsible for counting the votes, and, if required, recounting the votes, for each candidate in the election.
The role of the Count Table Supervisor is to supervise a team of Count Assistants, distributing ballot papers amongst them and ensuring the team always follow the correct counting method and procedures. They are also required to motivate others to maintain accuracy when counting within the team.
Key responsibilities and activities
- Attend required training
- Arrive at the count venue promptly and sign-in on arrival
- Have ready and agree to the terms of Secrecy Requirements
- Always act impartially and respect confidentiality of material handled
- Allocate contents of the ballot box to Count Assistants
- Supervise the counting of the number of ballot papers
- Supervise the division of ballot papers into votes for individual candidates and counting of the votes for each candidate.
- Advise figures to the Count Adjudicators.
- Work whilst being observed by candidates and agents
- Be polite and professional when dealing with candidates, agents, councillors or guests
- Remain at the count venue until the end of the count and sign-out at the end of the shift.
Pay: TBC
Hours/ days required:
Training – 2 hours
Count – Typically 8.30am-5.00pm for local government elections. Typically, 9.00pm-4.00am for Parliamentary elections.
Based at: Castle Leisure Centre
