Proposals for Ramsbottom town centre
Proposals have been developed together with the community, taking into consideration the feedback received during the consultation exercises undertaken in 2022 and 2024.
Responses were provided by attendance at public engagement sessions and by completing an online survey.
The original proposals included a one-way system but following further consideration and taking into account the feedback received, this will not be proceeding.
The scheme to be taken forward will concentrate on delivering the proposals that were supported by the community, as well as looking at wider opportunities to improve cycling and walking routes to the town centre.
Scheme elements to be delivered by March 2027
The following measures will be delivered with funding allocated from the UK Government City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.
- Upgrades to cycle routes, providing a direct access from the town centre to Nuttall Park
- Upgrading existing and new road crossings around the town centre, including new crossings on Bridge Street, Bolton Street, Railway Street, Square Street, Factory Street and Crow Lane, that act as a natural traffic calming measures.
- Changes to roads around the market car park to make it more pedestrian friendly.
- Introduction of a new 20mph zone across Ramsbottom town centre.
