Gathering and acting upon the views of children is vital if support and intervention is to be meaningful and effective. SENCOs identify that all staff need to understand the importance of authentically gathering the voice of children as part of everyday practice as far as possible.

Children with SEND have the same rights as other children to participate in decisions and issues that affect them. The importance of the participation of children with SEND is reflected both in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and in the SEND Code of Practice. Sadly, research suggests that despite this, children with SEND are often not included in decisions about their education and future.
