Thriving early years communities embed SEND support within a whole setting approach and ethos that celebrates difference and diversity, and champions inclusion. All children thrive in early years settings that are nurturing and inclusive and where a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered. It is expected that most children's needs will be well met by universal and mainstream services through an ethos of best practice and reasonable adjustments. SENCOs highlight the importance of an inclusive and differentiated behaviour policy which embeds reasonable adjustments for children with SEND and recognises all behaviour as a form of communication. Behaviour policies should include a SEND section which has a focus on supporting children who may struggle to understand routines, expectations, appropriate play with other children or who may display distressed or dysregulated behaviour.
