We are developing proposals to make it easier, safer and more attractive for everyone to travel to and around Ramsbottom town centre. The proposals are part of the Ramsbottom Town Centre Plan which aims to enhance the town centre for residents, businesses, community and visitors.
Our aim is to:
- Improve connectivity to local places and services
- Provide safe and convenient travel options for everyone
- Create high quality public spaces
Our proposals
The proposals have been developed taking into consideration feedback from an earlier consultation in 2022 about the Ramsbottom town centre plan. They include:
- Introduction of a one-way system around the town centre for all vehicles. Bridge Street would become one way westbound, and Kay Brow would become one way eastbound between Railway Street and Bolton Street.
- Introduction of a new 20mph zone across Ramsbottom town centre.
- Upgrades to cycle routes, providing a direct access from the town centre to Nuttall Park
- Upgrading existing and new road crossings around the town centre, including new crossings on Bridge Street, Bolton Street, Railway Street, Square Street, Factory Street and Crow Lane, that act as a natural traffic calming measures.
- Changes to roads around the market car park to make it more pedestrian friendly.
Community involvement
A consultation on these proposals was open from 12 November to 20 December 2024.
Responses were provided by attendance at public engagement sessions and by completing an online survey.
At the public engagement sessions there was an opportunity to view the Streets for All scheme proposals, meet the project team (to ask them any questions) and complete the survey.
Next steps
We are now reviewing the feedback and will produce a consultation report. We will use this report to determine whether the scheme should proceed and, if it should, whether there are elements that should be changed in response to the feedback we have received. It will then go through the council approval process.
