We want to make it easier, safer and more attractive for everyone to travel to and around Ramsbottom town centre.

Our aim is to:

  • Improve connectivity to local places and services
  • Provide safe and convenient travel options for everyone
  • Create high quality public spaces

These aims align with the vision set out in the Ramsbottom Town Centre Plan.

The bigger picture

Revised proposals for Ramsbottom town centre

Following feedback received during public consultation in 2022 and 2024, we have developed revised proposals for enhancing connectivity and improving accessibility throughout Ramsbottom town centre and the surrounding areas.

At the heart of the  proposals is a commitment to make travel easier and safer for everyone.

Initial proposals included introduction of a one-way system but due to significant concerns expressed during the 2024 consultation, this proposal has been removed from the revised scheme.

You can find out more about the revised proposals below.

You said, we did

During the consultation in 2024 we received 1504 responses. After considering the feedback we have revised the proposals.

Below you can find out more about the proposals and some of the changes made after considering the feedback.

Next steps

We have arranged two public presentation events to explain the revised proposals in detail.

Each event will include a 30-minute presentation, followed by a 30-minute question and answer session, providing an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and share further views on the proposals.

Where

  • Ramsbottom Civic Hall, Market Place, Ramsbottom, BL0 9AJ

When

  • Wednesday 27 May - 6.30pm to 7.30pm
  • Tuesday 2 June - 5pm to 6pm

Following these engagement events, Bury Council councillors will consider the revised scheme for approval. If approved, construction is expected to begin in 2027 and take approximately 12 months to complete.

What is a raised table?

A raised table is a section of the road that’s built higher than the surrounding surface, like a flat speed bump. It’s usually placed at pedestrian crossings or junctions to slow down vehicles and helps to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road.

What is a controlled pedestrian crossing?

A controlled pedestrian crossing is a safer place to cross the road where traffic is stopped or directed by traffic lights or signs.
