New health centre spur to regenerating Whitefield
Hello everyone, and I’m delighted to say we have some good news for Whitefield residents.
We have just completed a deal with the NHS whereby they will buy the site of the former Whitefield Library and build a new health centre there. This will enable the move of health services from the current Uplands site, which is in poor condition.
It will also bring back into use the old library site which, apart from being used briefly as a Covid vaccination site, has remained empty since 2017.
But it has wider implications too. This site, and the new services based there, will be an important part of our Whitefield Town Plan, our ambition to improve the town centre and maintain Whitefield’s reputation as an excellent place to live.
This really is a win-win situation for Whitefield residents. Buildings which have lain empty for years will be brought back into use, and medical services will remain in the town centre in modern, high-quality premises.
Work is now under way on the details, with the aim of starting on site in late 2025/early 2026 and being ready to open in mid to end 2027. Patients registered at the Uplands will continue to access services as normal throughout the transition, with no disruption to appointments.
The redevelopment also frees up the Uplands site for potential future use, and we will make further announcements as these plans progress.
