Figures and statistics of homelessness and social housing demands in Bury - September 2021

Housing applications

  • 399 new housing applications received
  • Average 35 working days to process an application
  • 1,529 applications on the housing register
    • 758 require a one bedroom property
    • 385 require a two bedroom property
    • 308 require a three bedroom property
    •   67 require a four bedroom property
    •   11 require a five bedroom property

Note: The council do not have any five bedroom properties in their stock. Applicants with a five bed need are able to bid on larger four bed properties that have a separate downstairs reception room.

Waiting times

Applications on the housing register have been waiting on average:

  • 387 days for a one bedroom property
  • 429 days for a two bedroom property
  • 526 days for a three bedroom property
  • 667 days for a four bedroom property
  • 819 days for a five bedroom property

Note: The council do not have any five bedroom properties in their stock. Applicants with a five bed need are able to bid on larger four bed properties that have a separate downstairs reception room.

  • 14 households were threatened with homelessness
  • 77 households were accepted as being homeless

 Temporary accommodation

  • 15 households were placed in temporary accommodation
  • Average number of nights staying in temporary accommodation was 112 nights
  • 6 households secured accommodation
  • On 30th September there were 69 households in temporary accommodation
    • 52 families with a total of 107 children
    • 17 single people
  • Bury Council do not use bed and breakfast as temporary accommodation

Footfall and access to services
