When can building work start
You may begin work at any time after you have submitted a full plans application or Building Notice provided you give at least 48 hours notice.
You may begin work at any time after you have submitted a Full Plans application provided you give at least 48 hours notice. However if work is carried out that does not comply with the Building Regulations it may have to be re-done or materials replaced.
A person carrying out building work (you or your builder if you have one) is required to notify the Building Control Officer at the following stages where this is appropriate:
- excavation or foundations
- foundation concrete
- over site
- damp-proof course
- foul water drains
- surface water drains
- electrical wiring prior to covering
- occupation prior to completion
The statutory framework for inspections as laid out above may not be appropriate to all types of work, e.g. loft conversions. In order to provide the best possible service the Building Control Officer may request notification when other stages are reached (eg roof timbers).
Inspections will be carried out as necessary and if requested before 10.00 am can generally be made the same day.
