Planning enforcement

If building work or a change of use is taking place without the necessary planning permission, Bury Council has various legal powers to resolve the situation. Failure to comply with an enforcement notice can lead to prosecution in the magistrates Court.
If you suspect that anything is taking place which may require planning permission please inform us.

Enforcement charter

We have introduced an Enforcement Charter which sets out how the Planning Service can help members of the public that are enquiring or complaining about planning matters controlled by the Council. The charter also advises on how enquiries will be processed and the levels of service that can be expected.
