Get Online Week runs from 19 to 25 October 2026 and is a national campaign to help people build digital skills and confidence online.

This year, alongside our usual schedule of drop-ins ran by friendly volunteers, we also have some additional opportunities to improve digital inclusion in Bury!

If you'd like help getting online, improving your digital skills, or using services such as the NHS App, you can book an appointment with one of our Digital Buddies at your local library. Friendly one-to-one support is available to help you gain confidence and make the most of the digital world.

Bury Works: Digital for All launch of the Digital Communities Partnership pilot

For Get Online Week 2026, Bury Works: Digital for All is please to announce the launch of the Digital Communities Partnership. This aims to bring together charities, community groups, businesses and public sector organisations to support digital inclusion across Bury.

The Partnership will provide a space for organisations to connect, collaborate and share knowledge, helping to ensure residents can access the support, skills, devices and connectivity they need to thrive in a digital world.

Inspired by successful partnership models elsewhere and developed in response to local demand, the Digital Communities Partnership will help strengthen collaboration across Bury and make it easier for organisations to work together to tackle digital exclusion. The Digital Communities Partnership is coordinated by Bury Council's Business & Investment Team through the Bury Works: Digital for All programme.

The first Digital Communities Partnership meeting will take place in January 2027, with further details shared with registered members.

Learn more about Good Thing Foundation's annual digital inclusion campaign

Good Things Foundation first launched their annual digital inclusion campaign called Get Online Week in 2007. Since then, and in collaboration with the National Digital Inclusion Network, they have hosted thousands of free community events across the UK, helping millions of people learn new skills and confidently get online to do things like safely navigate the web or try out AI.

Digital exclusion isn’t always black and white, or a simple case of being online or offline. In the UK today, 34 million adults are online with some barriers or vulnerabilities, and only 1 in 3 adults are comfortably online.

And when you can’t get online and don’t have the skills or confidence to navigate the online world, it’s impossible to get by in life.

From 19 to 25 October 2026, Good Things Foundation are asking people to take action and help them raise awareness of digital inclusion and advocate for everyone to be able to participate in our digital society.

For more information, please see their webpage available here: Get Online Week | Can't get online, can't get by | Good Things Foundation.
