How to recycle a real Christmas tree

  • In your brown bin - chop it up so it fits inside with the lid fully closed (please remove all decorations, lights and the wooden base)
  • Take it to your nearest recycling centre.
  • Arrange a collection - volunteers from Bury Hospice will collect your real Christmas tree and recycle it for you in exchange for a donation. Trees will be collected between Friday 9 to Sunday 11 January 2026 (find out more at buryhospice.org.uk and register at JustHelping.org.uk)

What to do with old batteries

Batteries should always be recycled, but you can't put them in any of your bins at home. Batteries contain hazardous materials and are a fire risk.
