Operation Encompass is a statutory safeguarding initiative that enables Greater Manchester Police to securely notify Bury schools when a child has been present at or affected by a domestic abuse incident. Through secure police-to-school notifications, typically sent before the next school day, Designated Safeguarding Leads or trained Key Adults can provide tailored pastoral support for the pupil affected. Encompassing children from 26 weeks gestation up to 18 years, the initiative now includes teenage relationship abuse and child-to-parent violence. Legal underpinning was introduced via the Victims and Prisoners Act (May 2024).
