Introducing the Service
The Youth Justice Service provides support to children and young people, their families, victims, and communities across the area.
We are a multi-agency service dedicated to preventing and reducing offending and re-offending by children and young people, while helping them achieve positive outcomes and fulfill their potential.
We work with children and young people aged 8 and above, as well as parents and carers, victims of crime, and partner organisations.
Our team brings together professionals from a range of backgrounds, including social care, health, police and probation services. By working collaboratively, we can provide coordinated support that responds to the individual needs of each young person and helps address the factors that may make them more vulnerable to offending.
A key part of our work is early intervention and prevention. We offer voluntary support to children and young people who may be vulnerable to becoming involved in criminal or antisocial behaviour, helping them make positive choices and reducing the likelihood of entering the Youth Justice System.
Working closely with families, schools and other agencies, we provide tailored support designed to build resilience, improve wellbeing and create safer communities.
Whether a young person has already become involved with the criminal justice system or would benefit from early support to prevent this from happening, the Youth Justice Service is committed to helping them make positive changes and move forward with confidence.
The way we provide our Youth Justice Service is changing
From 1 September 2026 Bury is strengthening support for young people by creating its own locally delivered Youth Justice Service, providing greater local accountability and more tailored support while helping keep communities safe.
We have carefully planned the transition to ensure that support for young people, families and victims remains uninterrupted as the service moves from a shared arrangement with Rochdale to a fully Bury-operated service.
