What your council does: Extra care service

Overview

The Extra Care Service helps older people to continue to live independently while getting the care and support they need.

We have developed specially designed housing with 24-hour care and support for people over 55 who need some care and support.

We have several housing schemes providing this type of housing and support:

  • Falcon and Griffin with 69 properties
  • Redbank with 38 apartments
  • Peachment Place with 60 apartments

Key services provided

  • Making sure residents get the right medicines at the right times
  • Have meals prepared
  • Any personal care that they may need
  • Housing support
  • Social events which bring residents together
  • Communal facilities such as a lounge
  • 24 hour care and support through a combination of staff on site during the day (8am-10pm and emergency response during the night
  • warden support through Carelink

Eligibility/criteria

  • Anyone over 55 with care and support needs

Service impact

Residents combine maintaining their privacy and independence with the availability of any support and companionship they may need.

The Falcon and Griffin scheme was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (between 19 August and 5 September 2025) and was found to be ‘Good’ in all criteria:

    • Safe
    • Effective
    • Caring
    • Responsive
    • Well-led

Partnerships/teamwork

Bury Council's Housing Services, Health and Adult Care, Carelink and Persona Care and Support work together to provide the Extra Care Service.
