Many children and young people need help in school or college. This can be for lots of different reasons. You might need help with learning, or in understanding your emotions and how you are feeling, coping with the school environment, or other things too. Remember, lots of children and young people need a bit more help in school or college, and that's okay!

The term special educational needs and disabilities, or SEND for short, is often used when a child or young person finds it harder to learn than other people, they face challenges that make it hard to go to school or college, or they need extra or different support to learn or make progress.
The level and type of help children and young people need will be different, and it might change over time. Sometimes you might hear this support in schools being called "SEN Support". For a smaller number of children and young people, support is available through something called an Education, Health and Care Plan (there is more information about this in the EHCP Section)
