Streets for All Radcliffe - Victoria Street/School Street neighbourhood

We want to improve the street environment and provide better travel options for everyone in the Victoria Street/School Street neighbourhood in Radcliffe.

Our aim is to:

Improve connectivity to local places and services
Provide safe and convenient travel options for everyone
Create high quality public spaces

We have listened to what the residents and businesses in the area have had to say about improving the area. So far, you have told us:

People do not feel safe walking or wheeling
Vehicle speeds are too high
Vehicles do not comply with one-ways
Safety concerns related to HGV access to Beesley and Fildes builder's merchants on Lord Street
People want more play spaces
More trees and planting
There is antisocial behaviour and littering

Our updated proposals in response to your feedback aim to bring improvements to your area. They include:

Improvements to pavements to make it easier to walk and wheel
New raised tables and speed humps to reduce vehicle speeds
Changes to one-way street system and two new vehicle filters to reduce dangerous vehicle movements
Safer access for HGVs to and from Beesley and Fildes via Lord Street, Coomassie Street, Ulundi Street, and Abden Street.
Improvements to Abden Street Park, the skate park, and alleyways
More plants and greenery across the neighbourhood

About Streets for All schemes

Streets for All schemes are part of the multi-million-pound investment in the Bee Network that aims to transform the way we travel across Greater Manchester, with joined up services, affordable fares, and cleaner, greener transport.

A key goal of the Bee Network is to ensure that by 2040, 50% of all trips – equivalent to one million daily journeys – are made by public transport, walking or cycling. Key benefits of more people regularly opting for sustainable travel will mean:

Less road congestion
Improved air quality
Better health and wellbeing
A well-supported local economy.

Funding for Streets for All schemes

The design of these schemes and future construction work is being funded by UK Government via the Streets for All element of Greater Manchester’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.

If the proposals are approved by Bury Council the work must be completed by 2027.
