Red brick building with a grey roof surrounded by trees

Plans to convert the current Radcliffe Library building at Stand Lane into a multi-functional enterprise centre are moving forward.

The centre will provide much needed flexible working space, along with meeting rooms and business support services.  It will also help small businesses start up and grow.

The £1.7 million project has been funded by the Government via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (£1.2m) and Bury Council (£500k).  The UK Government funding must be fully spent by March 2025.

This means:

  • Works to adapt the library building must be progressed before the library moves out to the new £40m Radcliffe hub
  • Radcliffe Library must relocate to the first floor to allow the enterprise centre adaptation works to go ahead.

Radcliffe Library temporary relocation

Radcliffe Library will move to its new permanent home at Radcliffe Hub during 2026, after the construction works are complete and the building is ready for occupation.

In the interim period before the Hub is ready, Radcliffe Library will temporarily relocate to the first floor at Stand Lane.

Relocation within the existing building is considered the best and least disruptive option for both staff and customers.

Timescales

Library relocation

Relocation of the library will take 4 weeks.

  • The library will be closed from 1pm on Saturday 2 November until 10 am on Tuesday 3 December.

While the library is briefly closed:

  • Alternative library services and activities will be available across our other libraries at Bury, Prestwich and Ramsbottom.
  • Library loans will be extended.
  • The ground floor will be sealed off, ready to accommodate the construction programme for the enterprise centre.

Enterprise Centre construction works

The enterprise centre construction programme will begin during December 2024 and continue until May 2025.

Throughout the construction works any disruption to library services will be kept to a minimum.

After the construction works are complete, the library will remain on the first floor until Radcliffe Hub is ready to be occupied in 2026.

The interim library service

The floorspace of the library will be reduced but the full library service will continue to be provided, including:

  • Reference
  • ICT
  • Children’s library
  • Community groups

Arrangements have been made to ensure everyone can access and use the first floor facilities. There is staircase and lift access to the upper floor.

Please bear with us

We remain committed to providing a quality library service and hope customers continue to enjoy what Radcliffe Library has to offer in its temporary location.

During construction projects, some inconvenience is inevitable, but we will be doing everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum.

We want to thank everyone for their patience during this transitional period before Radcliffe Library gets it permanent new home at Radcliffe Hub.
