Radcliffe Library on Stand Lane is now closed.
The closure will allow library staff to relocate stock, equipment and services to Radcliffe's new £40 million Hub building, which will bring together library, leisure and wellbeing services in a modern, purpose-built town centre facility.
Construction of The Hub was completed during the summer, and the building is now being fitted out ready for services to open later in autumn 2026. The exact reopening date for the new library will be announced nearer the time.
The move marks a significant milestone for Radcliffe, with residents set to benefit from modern, purpose-built facilities designed to meet the needs of today's library users while bringing together library, leisure and wellbeing services under one roof.
Library services during the temporary closure
- To minimise disruption during the closure period, temporary arrangements will be put in place
Borrowed books
- Books borrowed from Radcliffe Library after Saturday 12th September can be returned when The Hub is open. Books can also be returned to any of Bury’s libraries
Fines
- No overdue fines will be charged on items belonging to Radcliffe Library during the closure period
Reserved books
- Customers will continue to be able to reserve books online to collect from another library
Alternative libraries
Library members can continue to access services at the borough’s alternative libraries at Bury, Prestwich and Ramsbottom.

"The temporary closure of Radcliffe Library marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for library services in the town. While we appreciate customers' patience during the move, the short-term disruption will be well worth it.
"The Hub will provide fantastic modern facilities for residents of all ages, creating a welcoming space for reading, learning, digital access and community activities alongside leisure and wellbeing support. Bringing these services together in one purpose-built building will offer a much better experience for our residents, and we look forward to welcoming library users into their new library later this autumn."
