We have launched a Women's Safety Charter for the Borough of Bury. This is linked to a wider community safety programme, aimed at improving how safe women (including trans and non-binary identifies) feel throughout our borough.

Please note:

  • All sign-ups are subject to council approval
  • Approved businesses will be published on our website
  • Businesses must renew their commitment annually to remain listed on our website

Who has been involved in developing the charter?

The charter has been developed in partnership with Greater Manchester Police and Bury Community Safety Partnership.

We have also consulted focus groups, residents, and licensed businesses on the commitments included in this charter.

Why do we need the charter what does it aim to do?

We are proud that Bury is a safe borough with a welcoming night-time economy, endorsed by Purple Flag accreditation.

However, a specific priority for Bury Community Safety Partnership is to improve women's safety and to work in partnership to achieve this.

By introducing this charter and supporting licensed bars and clubs to prioritise women's safety, we aim to create a place where all women feel confident, welcome, and safe when travelling, working or going out at night.
