This course will comprise of 10 connected sessions. These will focus on the sources we can use to understand the people, boundaries, buildings, trades and transport of our area. Initially, we’ll be looking at the messages that placenames and surnames bring from the distant past. Then we’ll discover our old parish and township boundaries and use source materials to discover how these areas were administered from the 17th to the 19th Centuries. We’ll look especially at how the poor were dealt with.
Learning will be informal, practical and fun.
