Bury Council Housing and Neighbourhood Services work with Bury Council Operations Services to keep the outdoor areas around your homes clean, safe, and well-maintained.
What does the agreement cover?
This agreement sets out how grounds maintenance will be delivered across our housing estates. It includes:
- What work will be done (like grass cutting, hedge trimming, and litter removal)
- How often the work will happen
- The standards we expect to be met
How long does the agreement last?
The service started on 1 April 2025 and will run for 5 years, with a review after the first year to make sure everything is working well.

- Let residents know what to expect
What if something goes wrong?
If there’s a problem, both teams will try to sort it out quickly. If needed, senior managers will step in to resolve it. You can report any issues here
What Grounds Maintenance Covers
Our grounds maintenance team helps keep shared outdoor spaces clean, safe, and pleasant for everyone. Here's what you can expect:
Grass Cutting
- Regular mowing during growing season (March–October)
- Edges trimmed to keep paths and borders neat
Hedge and Shrub Maintenance
- Trimmed 2–3 times a year to keep them tidy and safe
- Overgrown or obstructive growth removed
Leaf Clearance
- Carried out in autumn and winter
- Focus on paths, entrances, and communal areas
Litter Picking
- Weekly visits to remove litter from communal green spaces
- Additional visits if needed
Weed Control
- Treated 2–3 times a year on paths, paved areas, and communal gardens
Hard Surface Sweeping
- Paths, car parks, and paved areas swept monthly
- Moss and debris removed to prevent slips
Flower Beds and Borders
- Maintained to keep plants healthy and attractive
- Dead plants removed and replaced seasonally
Bin Store Areas
- Kept tidy and free from fly-tipping
- Reported issues dealt with promptly
