Support and information following the attack last week

We just want to provide a quick update about the tragic events of the attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue last week.

This was an abhorrent attack on the Jewish community and the council, working with our partners continues to provide support for those who need it.

We know that it may have caused worry and concern for many of our tenants even if you are not from the Jewish community.

We are working closely with Greater Manchester Police and other partners and with community leaders in response to the incident.

The police have dedicated resources to the investigation and to keeping our communities safe, particularly synagogues and other places of worship, and being visible on our streets.

If you do have any concerns, please speak with your housing officer first by calling 0161 686 8000

If you need someone to talk to there are organisations that can help:

As we approach Hate Crime Awareness Week, we also want to remind you that we take all such criminal offences seriously.

Hate crime can be any incident motivated by the individual or groups’ prejudice due to someone else’s race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, transgender or gender Identity, or alternative sub-culture.

In an emergency always contact 999.

Across Bury we have hate crime ambassadors that are passionate about fighting hate crime and supporting victims of hate crime to report incidents. If you have been a victim of hate crime you can contact them for further support.
