Six Town Housing to close and what this means for tenants
The Council has announced that Six Town Housing (STH), the organisation previously responsible for managing much of the borough’s social housing, will be formally closed following a recent review.
STH was originally established as an arms-length management organisation to oversee around 7,800 homes.
In February 2024, the Council brought the majority of these properties back under its direct management. However, STH continued to own and manage 149 specialist social rent properties.
Following a review of governance requirements and the significant cost and resources involved in maintaining a separate organisation, the Council has now decided to fully close STH. The remaining properties will transfer into full Council ownership.
If your home is one of the 149 specialist properties affected by the transfer, this change will have no impact on your tenancy. Rent payments, services, and support will continue as usual. You will receive a letter with more information very soon and will be consulted throughout the process.
To support tenants through this transition, a drop-in session will be held at Red Bank Extra Care Scheme on Thursday 18th September at 10am. A Council representative will be available to answer any questions.
