Following the Coronavirus pandemic, all local authorities were given a pot of money to help with the recovery.
In Bury we established a Let's Live Well Health Improvement Community Fund so that community groups could put in bids for up to £5,000 to do whatever they wanted as long as it supported the people we knew had experienced inequalities and it would enhance health and wellbeing in some way, shape or form.
All we wanted to do was to work really close with the community, based on our LETS (Local, Enterprise, Together, Strengths) principles. The fund helped to bring our communities together and it brought local groups together to deliver a diverse range of projects to people of all ages.
A brief summary of the impact of the fund
- The fund totalled £500,000
- We allocated funding to 114 separate groups
- 12,450 people engaged with the various projects
- 68 groups aimed to increase physical activity levels
- 89 groups aimed to tackle social isolation
- 65 groups supported people with long term health conditions
- 53 groups aimed to improve mental health and wellbeing
- Nearly 4,000 people were supported in the most deprived areas of Bury
