Bury register Office holds the records for Births, Deaths, and Marriages within Bury District from 1837 to date.

A certified copy may be obtained on-line, and we will post them to you. There is a fee for each certificate you require. You can pay with a credit or debit card.

Fees

The current fees are:

  • Birth, Death, or Marriage Certificate issued on the same day £38.50
  • Birth, Death, or Marriage Certificate two-day service £12.50
  • Birth, Death, or Marriage Certificate by post £12.50
  • Birth, Death, or Marriage Certificate ordered online and posted out £13.50 UK, £15.50 Worldwide, £18.50 Tracked and signed for).

Birth certificate

There are 2 types birth certificates:

  • Short (which has the person's details only)
  • Full (which is a complete copy of the register entry). Please note that a full birth certificate is required to obtain a passport, for anyone born after 31 December 1982.

To obtain a certificate you will need to provide us with the following information:

  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Full names at birth
  • Parents names (if known).

If you cannot provide some of the above information, then please contact the General Register Office in Southport - Telephone: 0300 123 1837.

If your child was born in another district such as Manchester or Bolton, then you will need to contact their Register Offices to obtain a copy of the certificate.

Marriage certificate

To obtain a certificate you will need to provide us with the following information:
Date of birth,

  • Date of marriage
  • Place of marriage
  • Full names of parties at time of marriage
  • Father's names (if known).

Civil partnership certificate

To obtain a certificate you will need to provide us with the following information:

  • Date of civil partnership
  • Place of civil partnership
  • Full names of parties at time of civil partnership
  • The addresses of both the parties at the time of the civil partnership.

Please note that if the address cannot be provided then an extract copy of the certificate will be produced at the same fee.
