The Disabled Children's Register is a confidential list of names and basic information about children with disabilities, special or additional needs. The purpose of the register is to safeguard and promote the interests of disabled children and plan and improve services for them.
All local authorities must have a Disabled Children's Register (DCR) under the Children's Act 1989 although it is voluntary to join. It is a database of children and young people aged 0-25 years with disabilities and special educational needs. The information you provide will help to assist in the planning, monitoring and development of services for disabled children/young people and their families in Bury and will enable the Local Authority to communicate all correspondence back to you more easily.
What happens to the information? The information you give us will be held securely by the Local Authority until the child turns 25 years, it will then be archived. If you decide at a later date that you would like to remove your details from the register, you can do so by emailing
Any personal information that you provide will be processed in accordance with current Data Protection laws and will be held securely and treated in the strictest confidence, in accordance with the Inclusion and SEND services privacy notice - Bury Council

How do I put my child’s details on the database?
Registration is to be completed by, or on behalf of the child or young person who has a disability (for example a parent or carer can complete the form). A separate form needs to be completed for each child in the family who is disabled.
One of the benefits of joining the register is that you can be added to relevant distribution list to receive the SEND Newsletter, and other related information.
To register, please complete the registration form:
If you decide at a later date that you would like to remove your details from the register, you can do so by emailing Childrensdisabilityregister@bury.gov.uk
