Help Shape Bury's Short Breaks Offer: Join Our Engagement Sessions

What are Short Breaks?

Short Breaks support is for children with the highest levels of need alongside wider support available through Bury’s SEND Local Offer.

The Bury Short Breaks service provides social opportunities for children and young people whose daily activities are substantially and adversely impacted due to a long-term condition or impairment. The services supports Children and Young People to take part in activities in a safe and engaging environments where parents or primary carers are not required to be present (but often can be if they wish). These activities may be part of the Local Offer or need to be commissioned following a social work assessment due to a Child or Young Person’s level of need.

It provides an essential opportunity for parents and carers to have a break and allow disabled children and young people to have different experiences - places, people, and activities. The Short Breaks service aims to contribute to keeping disabled children safe and healthy, enabling them to enjoy new activities, make friends, and have new learning opportunities, as well as preparing teenagers for adulthood.

What is the purpose of these sessions?

We want to hear from parents and carers about what works, where services could be changed to improve the offer, and what really matters when Bury Council plans the future Short Breaks service. Your views will help shape the next version of the service. Some of the questions might be about services that are not currently delivered in Bury, but this is because we want to know if and how we might want to change the current Short Breaks offer of support in Bury. We know that every family and child in Bury is different, and we want to understand what would mean the most for you.
