Ambitious about Autism is delighted to share the Autistic and OK programme.
The Autistic and OK programme is a free wellbeing programme for autistic pupils at secondary school, empowering them to take control of their mental health before reaching crisis point. It was developed by Ambitious about Autism in collaboration with autistic young people as well as experts in mental health and wellbeing.
The programme has now reached over 850 UK secondary schools and has been downloaded over 3,500 times since our national launch last year. We are looking to increase uptake in schools in the north of England in places like Bury to ensure that autistic young people across the UK have access to tailored wellbeing support at school.
To find out more, visit the Autistic and OK website to download the toolkit for free. We’re also running 2 online information sessions for schools, academy trusts and local authority teams this term, taking place on:
- Thursday 23 January 2025
- Tuesday 11 March 2025
Secure your free ticket to either session, where our team will provide an overview of the programme and you’ll hear from one of our autistic Youth Advisors and a member of school staff who has run the programme in their setting.
If you have any questions or would like to speak directly with our team, please contact us at autisticandok@ambitiousaboutautism.org.uk.

We have set up a website, email address and telephone line in order for both young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as well as professionals. We aim to provide support, fun and friendship as well as advocating the views and rights of children and young people with SEND.

- We run a Thursday night youth group for young people over 18 years old with SEND in Bury. Please contact us if you would like to attend or if you would like to become a member of STARS.
- To enhance their social opportunities, members have enjoyed activities such as bowling, cinema trips, quizzes, Boxercise, meditation, themed parties/events and a dedicated summer activities programme.
- We offer consultative work, training and workshops to other organisations and professionals around how to support children and young people with SEND and in gathering their views. Subjects we have covered in our workshops include: Hate Crime Awareness, Disability Awareness and Independent Living skills. Please contact us if you are looking for support in these areas.
- Some of our consultation work has included: Gathering views on Home-School transport provision in Bury, EHC Plans and one page profiles.
- STARS have also successfully secured funding towards the cost of residential holidays, mental wellbeing activity packs (during lockdown) and for an 8 week project involving a regular Supper Club.
- We have also created a fun video featuring young people explaining the SEND changes in a clear and simple way. To watch our video, please visit our YouTube Bury STARS

From January 2025, the Deaf Ethnic Women’s Association is offering free art sessions for deaf children and their families.
Our Deaf BSL artist Fiona Barclay is hosting art workshops in various locations around the UK for deaf children aged 5 -12 years, while her colleague Yen Lieu, who is a Deaf BSL user, talks to parents about their experiences of raising a deaf child in the UK.
The sessions are primarily aimed at children and families from BME backgrounds but all children with deafness are welcome.
The sessions are part of the This Is Us D.E.A.F research project, which is funded by the NDCS.
We also host discussion groups for 16 – 25-year-olds from BME backgrounds. It is an opportunity for our young people to talk about their experiences of growing up with deafness in the UK.
Hearing siblings aged 16 – 25 are invited to take part in another group to talk about their experiences.
The parents and young adults that take part will be given a gift voucher as a Thank You and all sessions are free of charge.
For more information contact Deaf Ethnic Women's Association.
The Enterprise Centre is a registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee. It also operates as Naturally Enterprising from our now purpose-built outdoor alternative education centre, which is situated in the heart of The Kirklees Valley Trail and 24 acres of Nature Reserve.
We host innovative and creative projects using a combination of the great outdoors, equine assisted learning, conservation, enterprise skills, equine therapy, mental health and well-being coaching, teamwork and confidence building to help young people.

News from other Scope services
CP Service
At the start of 2024, we decided to bring our CP Service and CP Network together under one name: The CP Network. Before, the CP Network only referred to the monthly group meetings. Now, it’s the name for everything we offer to the cerebral palsy community. A network is stronger when its parts work together to reach a shared goal.
Lucy Hindmarsh and Sara Edwards are our Cerebral Palsy Information Specialist for the North region and Cardiff.
These new roles will help Scope support and empower individuals, families and groups in the cerebral palsy community.
Our aim is to strengthen local efforts by working together and sharing ideas.
If you know someone with CP, or who supports people with CP, please encourage them to join the network.
Our brand spirit film is back on big screens across the UK
The film follows disabled people as they go about their day. It shows how life is still so unequal. Negative attitudes such as staring and the judgement of others. Physical barriers such as broken lifts and abandoned hire bikes.
It features disabled actors and influencers, including TikTok creator and comedian Fats Timbo, and Hollyoaks actor Tylan Grant.
Through the film, we’re saying to the world: Don’t hold back from calling out injustice, from being an ally, from joining the movement for change. It invites everyone to join an unstoppable movement of disabled people and allies. To create a future where disabled people have the same rights and opportunities as everyone. Where barriers are removed and attitudes are transformed.
Where to get more help and advice
Our helpline provides free, independent and impartial advice and support. We’re here to support on issues that matter to disabled people and their families.
Our advisers can answer questions and talk you through a wide range of topics connected with disability, including:
- benefits
- finance
- social care
- work
- equipment and assistive technology
- housing and home adaptations
We can also point you to other information providers and Scope services in your local area.
Send us your feedback
Thanks for your support.
