The Women's Safety Charter commitments are for licensed bars and clubs that operate within the borough of Bury and are open during night-time hours. We ask that bars and clubs, large or small, support us in tackling and improving women's safety by committing to the charter's seven pledges:

  • Pledge 1: Proactively engage and raise awareness of women’s safety, including adopting safety schemes and initiatives that promote this.
  • Pledge 2: Adapt public spaces and workplaces to make them safer for women.
  • Pledge 3: Nominate a champion who will actively promote women's night-time safety within the organisation or licensed premises.
  • Pledge 4: Communicate to staff and customers that women's night-time safety, when working, going out, or travelling, is taken seriously
  • Pledge 5: Train staff in how to recognise unacceptable behaviour, how to deal with it and how to support patrons to report incidents to Greater Manchester Police.
  • Pledge 6: Encourage victims and witnesses to report incidents and ensuring all reports of unacceptable behaviour are recorded and appropriately dealt with.
  • Pledge 7: Work in partnership and communicate with Greater Manchester Police, enforcement agencies, and voluntary organisations regarding all reported incidents.
