Picture of a man. Text reads Book launch 'One Love' with Matt Cain.. Bury Art Museum, Moss Street. Friday 2 February. 6.30-9pm. Free entry

LGBT+ History Month takes place during February each year as it coincides with the abolition of section 28 in 2003, a policy that prohibited the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality.

Since the first LGBT+ history month in 2005, the event has raised awareness of LGBT+ issues and recognised the historic events and achievements of LGBT+ people that deserve more recognition.

This year it focuses on the people who have inspired others, helped them to learn about LGBT+ culture or encouraged them to become an ally.

As part of the month we’re looking for you to share your favourite LGBT+ TV shows, films, characters, literature, artists or personalities. The national theme focuses on contributions to the field of medicine and healthcare, but it we to share any inspirations you have. You can send these to equality@bury.gov.uk

Events in Bury during the month include:

  • Matt Cain will be launching his new book at Bury Art Museum on Friday 2 February from 7 to 9pm. The free event, hosted by Bury LGBTQI, will include a Q&A session.
  • Bury Libraries will be showcasing their collection of LGBTQI literature that residents can borrow.
  • Tue 6 Feb - monthly meeting of the Women's Group of the LGBTQI Forum 6.30-8.30pm at Bury Adult Learning Centre
  • Bury LGBTQI monthly drop in on 13 February at 7pm will be focusing on 50 years of LGBTQI activism. The meeting takes place at the Big Fandango, Bolton Street and everyone is welcome.
