The year our regeneration delivery accelerates!

Hello everyone. At the start of last year I said that residents will start to see the beginning of the delivery phase for the regeneration plans in our borough. 2025 will be exciting because residents will see this delivery accelerate and expand right across the borough.

It’s often said that people won’t believe it until they see it. Well, they’re going to see a lot of it in the coming months.

Where better to start than our famous and historic Bury Market? Earlier this week, I was at the ground-breaking ceremony to begin work on the new flexi-hall and new canopies to be built on the site. These multi-million pound schemes will ensure that our market continues to flourish for many more decades, with better facilities for shoppers and traders alike; an enhanced look and feel to the market while keeping the traditional atmosphere that makes it special.

You can already see all the development being done in Radcliffe, around the market hall and site for the new civic hub, plus new housing. The new Enterprise Centre is being created in the library building, which will help local small businesses get a foothold.

And in Prestwich, work is under way to build the new travel hub in the first phase of transforming the Longfield precinct.

In the next few weeks, we will also be unveiling a number of new housing schemes. All of these are being built on brownfield land – at Seedfield in Bury, Wheatfields in Whitefield and School Street in Radcliffe – with many at affordable prices to help people get onto the housing ladder.

We are also creating new houses for the elderly, and for those with complex mental health issues and additional needs.

All told, this is going to be another big year for our borough. No longer just a vision, or a masterplan, but a reality.
