Bury Art Museum has a number of programmes that focus on community engagement these include:

Bury Creatives

This is Bury Art Museum's programme working with young people aged 16-25 years. The programme which has been running since 2016 gives young people from a wide range of groups and backgrounds the opportunity to get creative, gain skills and be better prepared for university or employment. Bury Creatives works with young people who are both in and outside of formal educational programmes to support them to develop creative-thinking skills, engage with Bury Art Museum and learn about employment options within the creative industry. The creative projects and workshops, over the past 12 months, have enabled first-hand experience of working alongside practicing artists within a professional context and have included live performances (dance, music and drama) and pop-up exhibitions at Bury Art Museum.

Culture Champions

In April 2019 Bury Art Museum secured funding from Ambition for Ageing to run one of only four Culture Champions programmes across Greater Manchester. Working in partnership with The Met, Bury Transport Museum, the Fusilier Museum and Age UK Bury, the programme is creating a range of creative opportunities for people aged 50 years plus who would like to engage more with culture, specifically targeting people who are at risk of social isolation. Through the programme we are recruiting volunteers who will be involved in cultural activity across the borough and will encourage their peers to get more involved. The project will also fund creative activity in community centres and care homes and links to Bury's wider strategy to tackle issues of isolation and marginalisation.
