Getting bold with mould
4th September 2024

As the colder months approach, Bury Housing Services is offering important tips to help tenants reduce mould in their home! Mould can be a persistent problem, but with a few steps, you can keep it at bay.
- Act Fast: Wipe away black mould as soon as you see it, no matter how small. Early action can stop it from spreading.
- Paint Smart: When redecorating, use moisture-resistant paint. Mould doesn’t like this type of paint and will struggle to grow.
- Be Careful with Wallpaper: If possible, avoid using wallpaper near windows or doors. Mould loves the cold and damp spots that wallpaper can create in these areas.
- Stop Condensation: Regularly wipe away condensation on walls and tiles. This prevents mould from settling and spreading.
- Use Proper Treatments: When cleaning, use a proper mould treatment. Bleach only temporarily removes mould.
- Check Behind Furniture: Mould can hide behind furniture, so check these areas regularly and wipe away any mould as soon as you spot it.
