You must report an accident of your private hire or Hackney Carriage vehicle to us within 72 hours. To report the accident, you will need to provide:

  • your driving licence number
  • your vehicle ownership details
  • photos showing the damage to the vehicle
  • date, time and location of the accident.

After you've reported the vehicle accident, we'll update our records within seven working days.

An officer from our licensing enforcement will contact you to arrange a vehicle inspection and you'll be informed if your vehicle licence plate will be suspended.

If your vehicle licence is suspended, this will be for up to two months;

  • this timescale may be reduced if the vehicle can be inspected by an authorised officer from one of our approved testing stations; either Bradley Fold or Sunnybank Service Station within the suspension period
  • if the vehicle cannot be inspected within two months, the vehicle licence will be revoked and you must not use the licensed vehicle for hire and reward.
