Bury Adult Learning Service held their annual Learner of the Year Event last month, at Bury Adult Learning Centre, celebrating learners’ achievements.

Learners and tutors attended the event, along with dignitaries, and staff from Bury Council.

The learners had been nominated by their tutors in recognition of the level and progression of study and achievements in their various subject areas.

Bury Adult Learning Service named Marja Eugeni as the overall Adult Learner of the Year.

Marja’s tutor, Tracy Caren, who nominated her for the award said of her: “Marja enrolled on the art to reduce anxiety and stress course and I spotted a talent from the beginning. She had low self-esteem when she started and did not think she was good enough, however, at the end of the course her confidence increased and with encouragement, she applied to the University of Bolton to study a BA Hons Fine Art degree which starts in September.”

Councillor Tahir Rafiq, Cabinet Member, Corporate Affairs and HR, said, “It was my absolute pleasure to attend the learner of the year event this year and present the overall learner of the year award to Marja.

"This type of event is such a special occasion and was a great opportunity to meet all the learners nominated by their tutors. The learners are a credit to Bury Adult Learning Service and shows how much people of all ages can achieve through education and determination. I’d like to congratulate all the learners and wish them well for the future”.
