Radcliffe’s new secondary school

Radcliffe’s new secondary school at Spring Lane is sponsored by Star Academies. The new 5-form entry school for pupils aged 11-16 will be known as Radcliffe Star Academy and will provide 750 new school places.

Site progress

Work at the Spring Lane site is getting under way to prepare the site ready to accommodate its first intake of pupils in September 2024.

  • The former Radcliffe Leisure Centre, which closed on 10 December 2023, has been decommissioned and alternative fitness classes are running at Philips Community Centre while the new Hub for leisure and a new library is built.
  • The former school building has also been decommissioned.
  • During February half term 2024, the Pupil Learning Centre moved off the site to relocate to its new home at the New Kershaw Centre, Deal Street, Bury

Next steps

  • During March contractors are due on site to initially strip out the existing buildings prior to demolition
  • Land towards the front of the site will then be prepared ready to accommodate the modular buildings that will welcome the first intake of pupils in September 2024
  • Around the same time, site preparation and enabling works will begin to the north of the site, ready for the construction of the permanent building which will begin early in the summer of 2024

The September 2024 intake

As we work towards the opening of the new school, Star Academies (the school’s sponsor) continues to support and work with parents of prospective pupils.

  • Significant interest has been shown in attending the school with many local families applying for a place for their children.
  • On National Offer day (1 March) 160 places were offered to local parents.

Star Academies is a large multi-academy trust which runs some of the highest-performing schools in England. It is great news that from September Radcliffe children can once again go to high school in the place where they live.

Star Radcliffe Academy looks forward to welcoming the first group of Year 7 pupils and to working in partnership with the local community to deliver the best possible opportunities and outcomes for young people.
