Bury Town Hall

Delivering on our plans

Hello everybody, and it’s nice to be back with you following the local elections.

Thanks to everyone who voted. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to live in a nation where we can freely choose how the country and our town is run. Events elsewhere in the world remind us that we can never take these basic human rights for granted.

On the doorstep, people frequently raised the same issues. And we aim to tackle them all, using our LET’S Do It framework – Local, Enterprise, Together, Strengths.

Firstly, the cost of living. One of the first things we’ve done since the elections is to hold a Cost of Living Summit, bringing together groups from across society to discuss how we can help residents meet the financial challenges of getting through daily life.

Then, the need to ensure that basic council services are improved. That’s why we’ve agreed to invest significantly into carrying out road repairs and dealing with the backlog in tree maintenance.

And then, the need to invest in our towns in order to boost our economy, create jobs and ensure our borough thrives for many years to come. We’ve put together ambitious plans to regenerate the town centres of Bury, Prestwich and Radcliffe, along with proposals for Whitefield.

I promise you – this is the year when, after a huge amount of planning and securing the money, residents will see spades in the ground and bulldozers moving in. Our town centres will truly be transformed, and for the better.

It is vital that everyone is able to share in the success of these improvements, and that no one is left behind. That principle is at the heart of everything we do, as only then can we make the whole of Bury a great place in which to live, work, study and play.
