A great deal of activity has been taking place at the site of the new £40m Radcliffe Hub, paving the way for a new town centre and enhanced public services.
Since the start of 2024, Radcliffe has taken a huge leap forward on the road to its future regeneration.
- The tired buildings on the site of the £40m Radcliffe Hub have been demolished and the site has been cleared, ready for foundation works to begin during the springtime.
- At Radcliffe Market enabling works are being undertaken in the basement and a new gable wall has been built.
- At Market Chambers scaffolding is in place and internal and external repair work is being carried out.
- Around the construction site, hoardings have been erected with attractive panels installed to improve their appearance and showcase Radcliffe and the community.
Town centre businesses
Radcliffe Market will be open throughout the duration of the work and other town centre businesses will be trading as usual too. Please show your local traders your support - eat, drink, shop local.
The next chapter
During Spring 2024 the project will move from the enabling works phase to the construction phase.
Update for May 2024
BT diversion works:
- Excavations complete
- Works to pull through and joint cables is continuing
- BT will advise local service users about the changeover date
Market Chambers:
- Scaffolding will be installed on the site of the former TSB building to access the roof
- Structural remediation and replacement works to the roof will be further progressed.
- Repairs to the external brickwork will start
- The last of the non-structural parts of ground floor and basement, such as plaster and flooring, will be removed.
Market Basement:
- Sandblasting and masonry repair works will continue
Radcliffe Hub
- Works to create the foundations and retaining walls are continuing
- Excavations will start to create the basement areas of the Hub
- Piling work to create deep foundations for the leisure centre pool, basement and Clip ‘n’ Climb areas will be completed once BT have finished their diversion.

How disruption will be kept to a minimum
Demolition work
- A dust and noise monitoring station (with alarms) will be in operation
- Water suppression will be used to minimise dust in the air
- Dust extraction cubes will clean/remove airborne dust particles.
Piling
- A noise and vibration monitoring station (with alarms) will be in operation
- CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) piles will be used which drill and concrete in one continuous operation enabling faster installation
