Closed Business Lockdown Payments
This page was last updated on 1 April 2021
There are one-off top up grants for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses to help them through the National Lockdown which began on 5 January 2021.
These are for non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses that have been legally required to close, and which cannot operate effectively remotely.
Who is eligible?
All of the following have to apply:
- you were liable for business rates for the premises on 4 January 2021
- your business was trading as usual on 4 January 2021, or would have been if it wasn't already closed due to previous Tier 4 restrictions
- your business was not in administration, insolvent or subject to a striking-off notice
- you are planning to reopen after the lockdown period ends.
Closed Business Lockdown Payments will be paid in addition to Local Restrictions Support Grants.
The level of grant depends on the rateable value of your business.

|between £15,000 and less than £51,000||£6,000|
