The changes we have made

We have made changes and introduced the following additional procedures at our centres as follows.

  • Social distancing measures, such as floor markings and one-way systems.
  • More frequent and controlled cleaning regimes.
  • Changes to the way you book and pay for activities, including the need to pre-book in advance, either online or over the phone.
  • Time limits on bookable activities to ensure correct numbers of customers in centres and enable fair access and use for everyone.
  • Upon registering for online bookings, your details may be retained in case it's necessary to contact you for NHS Test & Trace requirements.

How you can help

Here are some things you can do when you visit our centres to help keep yourself and others safe and protected.

  • Follow guidance on social distancing by staying apart and paying attention to signage and floor markings throughout our centres.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before using the facilities and equipment and use the hand sanitiser provided.
  • Clean equipment before and after use with the products provided.
  • If possible, arrive dressed in your workout clothes to minimise the amount of people using the changing rooms.
  • Bring your own filled drink bottle, as water fountains will be out-of-use.

Keeping you safe

Which facilities will be available? 

We've done everything we can to safely open as many of our facilities as possible - this may not include all activities, at all sites. Please refer to the timetables above for more details.

Do I have to wear a face covering?

Wearing a face covering in our centres isn't compulsory at the moment but if the law changes we will update our policies accordingly. If you feel safer or more comfortable wearing a face covering, please do so.

How will you ensure social distancing? 

There will be spaced markers on the floor to ensure distancing and a one-way system will be in place at all centres.

Will you provide hand sanitiser and cleaning products?

We have installed hand sanitiser and hygiene stations at all centres.

Will I have to clean equipment after I use it?

You'll be asked to clean all equipment you use. Our staff will also be cleaning in-between sessions.

Will staff be wearing PPE?   

Yes, if they have to administer any first aid and for cleaning purposes.

Have staff had any extra training related to COVID19?

All our staff have undergone Covid-19 risk assessments and training for returning to the workplace in line with government recommendations.

Will you provide cleaning spray and paper towels for people to clean equipment after use?

Cleaning spray and paper towels will be readily available at all our centres.

What about ventilation in the centres?
Our ventilation systems have been altered to meet the most up-to-date government guidelines for leisure facilities.

Your visit

Do I need to book an activity in advance?

Yes. All activities can be booked up to 7 days in advance.

Do I need to register for online bookings?    

Yes you will need to register before you can make online bookings. Once you have completed the registration your user/membership number will be emailed to you - you are then ready to make online bookings.

Can I pay with cash on the day?

Unfortunately no, there will be no facility for cash payments - all payments will need to be made by debit or credit card in advance.

Will I have to queue outside?

Yes, on arrival at the centre, please take your place in the queue outside, using the visible distance markings for reference and wait to be called into the centre.

What will happen when I enter the centre?

You will need to check in at reception and then make your way to your designated session. Please follow the marked one-way system. Please wash your hands or use hand sanitiser before you start your activity.

Will the changing rooms be open?

Changing facilities will be available on both wet and dry side but we would recommend spending as little time in them as required. If you are able to change and shower at home it will limit potential contact between centre customers.

Will the toilets be open?     


Do I have to pay for parking?     

Pay & Display on all Bury Town Centre car parks is suspended until further notice. Go to our parking page for more information

Will the lockers be available?

Yes, lockers will be available for all activities. A locker token or £1 coin is required.

Can I purchase drinks at the centre?    

Please bring your own filled water bottle as there will be no water dispensers on site.

Can I take a towel into the gym or fitness class?

No. We will provide disposable paper towels for single use and immediate disposal​.

Are the BEATS and Lifestyle classes taking place?

BEATS classes will restart from week commencing 17 August at Radcliffe Leisure Centre and Castle Leisure Centre.

Is there a time limit for my visit/session?      

Yes, initially sessions will be limited to a maximum of one-hour.

Are the virtual fitness classes taking place?    

Virtual fitness classes will be running on a reduced timetable. 

Will the spin studio be open? 

Yes, the spin studio will be open with a reduced timetable.

When will swimming lessons be restarting?   

Swimming lessons will restart later this year following the safe phased reopening of the centres.

Your membership

When will my membership Direct Debit payments resume?

We will start taking Direct Debit payments from Saturday 1 August 2020.

Will I be able to use my GM Active Reciprocal Membership?

No, GM Active and its 12 leisure and sports operators across Greater Manchester have agreed to temporarily restrict reciprocal memberships across the region until Autumn, to ensure a safe relaunch later in the year.

I don't feel safe coming back to the centre, will my membership remain frozen?

I'm not ready to come back, can you deliver sessions remotely online?   

There will some classes and sessions available for paid members to access via Facebook and YouTube.
