New Special Free School in Bury
In July 2018, the DfE launched a joint special and AP free schools wave, where local authorities were asked to set out their case for why a new school would benefit their area. Bury Local Authority submitted a bid for an 80 place co-educational special free school for 11-16 year olds with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Social Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
We are delighted that the DfE has recently announced that Bury's bid has been successful, and has received approval to progress to the next stage of the process - the trust competition stage.
Applications from proposer groups are now being invited to open the new school in Bury. The specification document can be accessed here: Specification document - March 2019 [375kb].
A Stakeholder Engagement Event took place on Thursday 30 May 2019. The presentation can be accessed here: Free Special School sponsor engagement presentation [1Mb]
