Bury Council have declared a Climate Emergency and set a target to be carbon neutral by 2030. We recognise the importance of tackling climate change both in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to minimise future global climate change and planning for the unavoidable local impacts of climate change.
Carbon Management at Bury Council
Since 2008/09 we have measured the greenhouse gas emissions from council activities and each year we produce a greenhouse gas report which describes our progress. Our latest report shows that since our 2008/09 baseline we have reduced our emissions by 44%.
Greater Manchester approach
We work closely with colleagues in neighbouring Greater Manchester councils to have a shared approach to this agenda. Greater Manchester have a 5 Year Environment Plan for 2019-2024 which describes the collective actions needed now and over the next 5 years to meet our ambitious targets.
