APPRENTICESHIPS WITH GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE

Greater Manchester Police are recruiting - this degree apprenticeship will also be suitable for anyone who is just completing their A Levels or a Level 3 qualification.

GM Apprenticeships

Eligibility

Recruitment to the apprenticeship requires three elements to be completed.

1) To meet the academic requirements of this programme, apprentices must have level 2 GCSE grade C (4-6) or above in both Mathematics and English or equivalent e.g. or Functional Skills Level 2 in Literacy/Adult Numeracy.

2) You will need a level 3 qualification, that credit 80 UCAS Points eg:-

. A Levels with grades - CCC or equivalent

. Pearson’s BTEC National Extended Diploma - MMM

. Access to HE Diploma – Pass

3)Recruitment to GMP is subject to successful completion of the National Assessment Centre process alongside specific GMP requirements.

ACHIEVE HE - BURSARY AND FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CARE EXPERIENCED YOUNG PEOPLE WISHING TO ATTEND UNIVERSITY

Since the introduction of Achieve HE, we have continued to support young people from care experienced and/or estranged backgrounds through our fantastic services. Please continue to share our pre-entry support with the young people you support, and their supporters:

1. Pre-entry bursary: this is available to any care experienced or estranged young person (aged 16-25) who is planning on going to university in the next two years - find the full details including a link to apply here.

2. VIP Visit Package: this provides funding for travel and overnight accommodation for a young person and a guest to visit our campus. Please click here for full details and how to apply.

3. Bespoke support and advice: this can be directly with a young person, or with a professional. Topics that could be covered include general information about university, choosing options, student finance, personal statements and student support. This can be provided in person (on campus or in the community), over the phone or via video call. To arrange a session, please click here.

EARLY BREAK NEET MENTORING PROJECT - FUTURE YOU

Eligibility:

  • 18-24 years old
  • Must live in Bury, Rochdale or Oldham
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
  • NEET (not in education, employment or training). Can be on a zero-hour contract.

The offer:

  • 1:1 mentoring tailored to the young person’s needs.
  • We will develop personal development plans with the young person and help them work towards their goals.
  • Weekly engagement which can be face to face, over Teams/Zoom/phone depending on the young person’s needs.
  • Support the young person towards/get into a positive outcome.

What support could look like:

  • Confidence building such as joining a young person’s group, taking part in a new activity.
  • Go for a walk with them- we’re finding because of the pandemic young people don’t leave the house as much.
  • Employability e.g. CV and cover letters, interview skills, job searching and applications.
  • Helping them find opportunities e.g. volunteering, training, skills courses, apprenticeships, education, employment, self-employment etc.
  • Travelling on public transport with them to build confidence and independence.
  • Accessing Early Break’s wellbeing fund- this can go towards things like interview clothing, a bike, a musical instrument- something that is going to improve their wellbeing.
  • Life skills such as budgeting, helping them apply for benefits.

Meetings and Forums:

Care Leaver Forum:

The Care Leaver Forum is currently held fortnightly. The Forum will give you a chance to connect to other care leavers, staff and discuss current issues, support on offer and opportunities available. Please contact Heather Walton for more details and how to join the meeting. (h.walton@bury.gov.uk)

Youth Cabinet and Youth Climate Group:

Bury’s Youth Cabinet and Youth Climate group meetings provide young people with the opportunity to connect with one another, to reflect on the current situation, to offer insights into how they can support one another and how services can support them. Children in Care Council

The Participation team work in partnership with Bury Children’s rights to support the running of the Children in Care Council. These meetings are now back to face to face meetings rather than Virtual over Teams. Contact Mike Nichols for more details (m.nichols@bury.gov.uk).

Housing Support Sessions

Do you need to register for housing, bid on properties or need advice on your current tenancy/budgeting skills? Drop in to the NKC any Thursday between 1-3pm - no need to book. See flyer attached.

Weekly Well-being Sessions at NKC

Come along to a weekly sessions to support positive Well-being. The first 4 sessions will be focused on cookery skills. See the flyer in the section on the right hand side and contact your PA to book.

Fair Futures offers a weekly support group to young male Asylum Seekers/Refugees in Greater Manchester and this takes place in central Bury weekly. Leadership programme for our care experienced young people from the ages of 15 (Yr11) to 21, which is being delivered at Bury Art Museum every Wednesday evening 5:30-7pm starting on Wednesday 27th September and 1 Saturday 11th November. Youth Leads is an award-winning charity that get the voices of young people heard and acted upon and was founded by Saeed Atcha OBE - an amazing care experienced young man from Bolton. This is a great opportunity for our care experienced young people and would look good on any CV and personal statement for college or university.
