Town centre road closures

Bury town centre road closures

Market Street – until July 2026

Sections of Market Street will be closed until July 2026 for road safety improvements part of the Fishpool and Pimhole Bee Active Travel Scheme. The road will be closed at different points as the works progress along the road n five phases. When the road safety improvements are complete, resurfacing will be carried out requiring a full-length road closure for part of the process. Diversions will be clearly signed.

Prestwich town centre road closures

Part of Fairfax Road – from 13 October 2025 to July 2026

A short stretch of Fairfax Road is closed on weekdays in both directions to support construction of the new Prestwich Travel Hub. The road will reopen most weekends between 5pm Friday and 7am Monday. See more information and Q&A about the closure

Whitefield town centre road closures

Church Lane/Bury New Road - Monday 19 January to Friday 27 March

From Monday 19 January until Friday 27 March, lane closures will be in place on Church Lane at the junction with Bury New Road in Whitefield.

The closures are to allow for landscaping works connected to the Bee Network Metrolink tunnel works.

From Monday 19 January to Friday 27 March 
  • Lane closure on Church Lane - no access for vehicles turning left from Church Lane onto Bury New Road
  • Lane closure on Bury New Road for northbound traffic - two lanes reduced to one lane
  • Diversion route - Church Lane, Stanley Road, Moss Lane, Bury New Road

From Monday 19 January to Friday 20 February
  • No access to and from Bank Street from Church Lane
